It’s seven months remaining, and you are now experiencing pain in your belly or spotting. While you are bothered cramps and spotting will cause a miscarriage, women usually get stomach pain from time to time during pregnancy.
At 8 weeks or 2 months into your pregnancy, some women will get spotting from minortrauma.
Here’s Betty email she sent me after she notice spotting at 8 weeks
Hi doc, I’vebeen trying to conceivefor 7 years and finally got pregnant. This morning is started bleeding on my panties and i think it’s a miscarriage. I don’t see clots, though, i feel tiny cramps in my abdomen. Please i need your help
After the email, I informed her to see her doctor quickly. Here’s the last email I received from Betty,
Thanks doc. It’s nothing serious. I had sex the night before, and my doc says there is no problem.
Just like Betty, a lot of women will want a quick answer to why they are spotting. In most cases, it’s not a miscarriage.
Apart from sexual intercourse, vagin*l infections and cervical trauma will make you spot while pregnant. If you are also having cramps, it’s also normal except you get bleeding too.
Commonly, any injury to the vagin*l epithelium and the cervix will cause mild to moderate vagin*l spotting. This is because, at eight weeks pregnant, your vagin*l area, including your cervix, is well perfused with blood. Slight trauma will cause spotting.
Then again, mild or heavy vagin*l bleeding may still mean you are having a miscarriage.
A miscarriage is a sudden loss of your baby before 20 weeks of pregnancy. In the first three monthsof getting pregnant, it’s considerably common for women to have a miscarriage.
During a miscarriage, a lot of women will have cramps, bleeding and body weakness.
The truth is your chances of having a miscarriage at 8 weeks is less now compared to the weeks before. At 3, 4, 5, and 6 weeks of pregnancy, miscarriage rates are very high.
If you are now eight weeks pregnant, it means you’ve missed your period for four weeks. At this time, your baby’s development is occurring normally, and baby is increasing in size.
At 8 weeks, you’ve already recognizedpregnancy changes with sore heavy breasts, fatigue, and nausea. Some women may have food cravings and vomiting too.
If these pregnancy symptoms at eight weeks start to wane with spotting and cramps, it’s possible there is something wrong. Talk to your doctor ASAP.

What are early miscarriage signs at 8 weeks?
If you are eight weeks pregnant and worried you could be having a miscarriage, here are the common symptoms
1. vagin*l bleeding with or without blood clots
If you have to bleed with or without blood clots, at 8 weeks of pregnancy, you should see your doctor
The truth is vagin*l bleeding commonly occur in women that have a miscarriage. Though it could be light or heavy bleeding; Severe abdominal cramps with heavy clots from your vagin* is likely a miscarriage
Unlike sexual intercourse and cervical trauma where spotting is usually light and stops in few days, a miscarriage bleeding will continue for days.
Then again, you could have bleeding that stops and starts again or no bleeding at all. I recommend you see your doctor early as possible.
Also, because of the frequency of a miscarriage in the first trimester, there is every reason to worry till your doctor has examined you.
About 30 percent of women that are expecting will notice bleeding in the first trimester of pregnancy. Even so, more than 50 percent of these women will not end up losing their baby.
What to do if am spotting at 8 weeks?
If you notice you are bleeding at 8 weeks, here are steps to follow
Is vagin*l bleeding heavy or light?
If you are pregnant, spotting is common. Therefore, any vagin*l spotting will not mean a miscarriage. On the other hand, a light bleeding at eight weeks of pregnancy could be due to a miscarriage, especially if you feel sharp stabbing abdominal cramps.
If your vagin*l bleeding is heavy with clots, it’s unlikely your pregnancy is still viable.
Whether you get light or heavy spots, talk to your doctor.
Do you see fetal tissues down there?
If you now see fetal parts coming from your vagin*, it’s also likely you have a miscarriage. Try to confirm the status of your pregnancy with your doctor.
Are you feeling weak and dizzy?
Dizziness, fast pulse rate, loss of consciousness, and fainting are signs that your heavy bleeding is now affecting your health
If you lose too much of blood from a miscarriage, it causes hemorrhagic shock, and sometimes could cause death if nothing is done quickly.

Are you Rhesus Negative?
If you’ve already seen your doctor by now, you should have enrolled for prenatal. During your checkup, basic blood and urine test will be carried out. These tests require your blood group, Rhesus factor, and hemoglobin level. If you’re rhesus negative, your partner’s positive rhesus could cause a problem in your future pregnancy.
If you have a miscarriage bleeding ( or bleeding due to an ectopic pregnancy), it could affect your future pregnancy if your partner is Rhesus positive.
This occurs due to sensitization that occurs with formation of antibodies that fight future pregnancies.
2. You have cramps and back pain
If you are 8 weeks and have back pain, it’s nothing serious. In most cases, it’s due to weakening and loosening of muscles and ligaments.
However, back pain, cramps, vagin*l bleeding and no pregnancy symptoms is a miscarriage sign.
Who are at risk of a miscarriage?
- Elderly women more than 35 years
- Smoking pregnant mother
- Women who abuse drugs
- Drinking too much alcohol while pregnant
- Trauma to your abdomen
- Excessive use of caffeine
- Untreated vagin*l infections
What’s the most common cause of miscarriage at 8 weeks?
If you are 8 weeks and already diagnosed with a miscarriage, it’s likely because of abnormal chromosomes, either from the egg or sperm.
Also, an abnormal cell division after fertilization will cause genetic abnormalities.
Your body quickly senses an abnormal number of chromosomes and ends the pregnancy before it develops. It’s a natural way your body works, so it’s not your fault if a miscarriage happens.
What is the probability of miscarriage happening at 8 weeks?
If you are worried about getting a miscarriage at 8 weeks, you shouldn’t. Except, if you are already having miscarriage symptoms already discussed.
Compared to previous weeks, your chances of having a miscarriage is about 3 percent.
However, if it occurs, you can quickly try again when emotionally ready.
