TPWD Lake Jackson Flat Out Fishing Seminar Saturday, February 24 at Lake Jackson Civic Center
Bobby Miller of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s Dickinson Marine Lab has done a heck of a job of finalizing arrangements for this weekend’s “Flat Out Fishing” seminar at the Lake Jackson Civic Center in Lake Jackson.
There are still spaces available, although Miller tells me that they are going fast. Admission will be capped at 300, and we are well on the way to approaching that figure.![]()
The proceeds from Flat Out Fishing go to benefit the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s crab trap removal efforts. The crab trap cleanup program has been hugely successful, but not without the contributions of a great many donors … including the sponsors of this event … who have made significant contributions toward its success.
Participants will be eligible for door prizes and “goody bags.”
Most recently, John Ross, owner of the FishingLight Company, has signed on to present a fascinating seminar on how to get the most out of portable 12-volt fluorescent “green light” systems like those manufactured by Ross’ Houston-based company. Most folks think of green light fishing as an inshore saltwater endeavor, and understandably so. It can be, and usually is, extremely effective. However, a number of green light experimenters, Yours Truly included, in recent years have also utilized the fluorescent bulbs in offshore waters with a great degree of success.
The bottom line: Whether you fish the flats or the rigs, this is one of many of the day’s offerings that will beyond a doubt enable you to be a more effective and productive angler next time you head out in your boat.
The cost is $20 per person or $30 per couple, payable by cash, check or money order at the door. Registration fees are tax-deductible. Children under 17 may attend free.
To register, contact Bobby Miller at (281) 534-0110 or by email at bobby.miller@tpwd.state.tx.us.
Flat Out Fishing is underwritten by Anheuser-Busch and sponsored by CCA Texas, the Corpus Christi Convention & Visitors Bureau, Daiichi, Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, Texas Department of Agriculture, www.Coastalanglers.com, the Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest and the Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program.
I will emcee the event, and am very much looking forward to getting to meet you.
