Capt. Mike Mosley “Tight Lines” Benefit Fishing Tournament Saturday, November 18

A longtime Matagorda Bay fishing guide needs our help, and you can make it happen by participating Saturday, November 18, in the “Tight Lines” Benefit Fishing Tournament for Capt. Mike Mosley.
Headquarters for the event is Russell’s Bait & Tackle (at Matagorda Harbor). Fishing begins at 6:00 a.m.; scales open at 1:00 p.m. and all anglers must be in line to weigh fish no later than 2:00 p.m. Capt. Mike Mosley
The largest stringer of fish (speckled trout, redfish and flounder) will yield a guaranteed payoff of $1,000. Anglers will be allowed three trout (only one over 25 inches), one redfish (inside the 20-to 28-inch slot restriction) and one flounder.
Entry fee is $50 per person. That price includes a meal ticket for the evening’s benefit dinner, which judging from auction prizes already allocated, promises to be an awesome event (60 prizes are currently listed on www.matagordabay.com, ranging from a vast offering of guided fishing and hunting trips to top-notch custom fishing rods, angling electronics and much, much more).
Dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Matagorda ($7.00 per plate for non-registered attendees). The live auction begins at 6:00 p.m. and will last until auctioneer Tommy Coler has sold the last item. Music will follow the live auction.
There will also be prizes awarded for the heaviest speckled trout, (slot) redfish and flounder.
Optional team side pots will also be available (at $100 per team) for Heaviest Stringer, Heaviest Trout, Heaviest (Slot) Redfish, Heaviest Flounder and, a really cool option for those who like banking on flat-out luck, a “Spot Pot” for the (slot) redfish that boasts the largest number of spots. Speaking of “banking,” anglers can fish from either the boat or the bank. It’s a wide-open event as techniques go, with the inclusion of live bait, dead bait or artificial lures (current plans call for Yours Truly being there to fish live Black Salty baitfish for all three species). Again, the merchandise and trips, when considered collectively, are nothing shy of astounding. This Fishing Tournament/Fundraiser Benefit is a wonderful opportunity to purchase first-class outings with a broad spectrum of pro guiding’s best (including my good friend, former fishing guide and current host of the SportsRadio 610 Outdoor, Show Capt. Wayne Vinton, and his weekend co-host Capt. Bennie Hatton). While you are at it, you will also get a rare opportunity to learn from the best, and do so via an event that will help provide much-needed financial assistance to help offset Capt. Mosley’s growing medical bills.
Participants can find and print out Tournament Rules, Entry Forms and Side Pot details, a Tournament Flyer and Tournament Information, a comprehensive listing of donated items and trips and more on the Web at www.matagordabay.com.
For more information about making donations for the live auction, call either Robin and John Dixon at 979-863-7110 (send e-mail to harborhousegals@yahoo.com) or Suzanne Talasek at 979-245-1782 (send e-mail to s_talasek@hotmail.com).
Co-chairs of the event are Laura Hallmark (979-429-1203 or Mssaltydog@hotmail.com) and Jody and David Cassady (979-863-1143 or cassady@airmail.net).
Donations and letters of encouragement can also be made/submitted at www.matagordabay.com (or, mail to: General Delivery, c/o Mike Mosley, Matagorda, TX  77457).
I hope to see you there, and while we’re at it, maybe even share a fish story or two.
